Which of the following best describes your competitive situation?
My move has run into difficulties and my progress has slowed to a crawl.6.4.7 Difficult Situations 6.4.7 Difficult Situations
"There are mountain forests.
There are dangerous obstructions.
There are reservoirs.
Everyone confronts these obstacles on a campaign.
They make bad terrain."
Sun Tzu's The Art of War 11:1:27-31
Situation:
The difficult situation is the something of the opposite of the Easy Situation (6.4.2 Easy Situations ). Difficult situations arise when we encounter serious obstacles to success. They occur relatively late in a move or campaign, when we have completely explored an opportunity. The difficulties discovered can be a big problem central to the opportunity or a number of problems blocking all our different routes to success.
I have only one option and it involves a transition during which I will be vulnerable.6.4.8 Limited Situations 6.4.8 Limited Situations
"In some areas, the entry passage is narrow.
You are closed in as you try to get out of them.
In this type of area, a few people can effectively attack your much larger force.
This is confined terrain."
Sun Tzu's The Art of War 11:1:32-35
Situation:
The Limited Situation marks a transition point when we depend on a narrow set of resources. In limited situations, we are constrained by our environment or surrounded by our opponents, making access to additional resources impossible. A limited situation occurs towards the end of a campaign where we are making the final transition to the desired position. This limited situation arises in an area where we cannot bring all our resources to bear because the transition point is a bottleneck.
I have no options left and my move is clearly in danger of failing.6.4.9 Desperate Situations 6.4.9 Desperate Situations
There is sometimes no place to run.
This is always deadly ground. "
Sun Tzu's The Art of War 11:6:14-15
Situation:
The Desperate Situation represents the class of situations where our position is deteriorating rapidly. A desperate situation occurs at the very end of a campaign when time, alternatives, and favorable conditions are all running out. Also known as the deadly or do-or-die situation, the desperate situation arises in an area where the forces opposing our success are rapidly mounting.
