"If you are too weak to fight, you must find more men.
In this situation, you must not act aggressively.
You must unite your forces.
Prepare for the enemy.
Recruit men and stay where you are."
Sun Tzu's The Art of War 9:6:1-5
Situation:
While our movement to improve our position never stops, we must sometimes take a pause. We can only take what we have the strength to grasp. We get into trouble when we reach beyond our capabilities. When our resources are spread too thin, we become vulnerable. We reach barriers that we don't have the resources to overcome, we must regroup. The problem is that it is often difficult to recognize our situation. Mistakes in monitoring resources are easy while we are making progress. The faster we are going, the easier it is to forget to monitor our limited resources (3.1.1 Resource Limitations ). The more we focus on fighting the battle, the easier it is to run low on ammunition.

"Some military commanders do not know how to adjust their methods.
They can find an advantageous position.
Still, they cannot use their men effectively ."

Situation:
Movement often naturally generates opposition. Many of the nine common classes of strategic situations are defined by our position relative to opposition (6.4 Nine Situations ). These same types of situations arise over and over again but they are never exactly the same. Every occurrence involves a unique constellation of conditions. As with all aspects of situation response, the devil is in the details.
I want to get the most possible psychological leverage from my response.6.8 Competitive Psychology 6.8 Competitive Psychology
"You must control your soldiers with esprit de corps.
You must bring them together by winning victories.
You must get them to believe in you."
Sun Tzu's The Art of War 9:7;7-9
Situation:
Responses that are inappropriate to our situation fail no matter how completely we are committed to them. However, half-hearted and uncertain responses can fail even if they are technically correct. Psychology is a critical component to all success. Making a serious commitment to a response focuses our efforts. Lack of commitment dissipates our efforts. If we are decisive in making the wrong decisions, we are simply reckless and undermine people's respect in us.
